ABWL-NJ member, Honorable Avion Benjamin, JSC is assigned to the Family Part in Essex Vicinage.

Judge Benjamin was sworn in as a Superior Court Judge on November 6th.

On October 29, 2020, New Jersey Law Journal, reported Judge Benjamin’s bio as follows:

Avion M. Benjamin, served as the first assistant corporation counsel for Newark, a position she held since February 2015. She oversaw the Civil Litigation Section and the Municipal Prosecutor’s Office, supervising some 25 employees. Benjamin was previously section chief of civil litigation from September 2009 to January 2015, where she was responsible for overseeing the defense of personal injury lawsuits filed against the city and its employees, including tort claims and civil rights actions. She moved up the ranks, starting as assistant corporation counsel to her first assistant corporation counsel position. Earlier this year Benjamin argued before the state Supreme Court in FOP v. City of Newark involving the challenge to an ordinance that would create the first civilian complaint review board in the state.
